Domain Names
InterWeb Design is based in Bristol, we buy and manage domain names on behalf of our
clients. We can
register domain names ending in .co.uk, .ltd.uk, .com.uk, etc, as well as top level domains such as .com, .org and .net. We also host a wide choice of European domain name extensions. Due to the global reach of the Internet we are able to host domain names on behalf of customers all over the world.
All domain names are registered in the customer's personal or business name.
If you require a new domain name IWD will buy it on your behalf. Alternatively, if you already own a domain
name you can transfer
it to us for management. When we have access to your domain we will be
able to set-up web forwarding, DNS records and transfers.
IWD register all domain names in the client's name, that way you are in full
control of the domain, we only manage it for you. If you own a domain or
intend to register one make sure it is in your name, that's an essential and
important part of protecting your on-line business identity.
Domain Name Fees
.co.uk - £14.00 for two years*
.com .net .org - £20.00 for two years*
.info .biz - available upon request.

(includes domain name transfer to and/or from IWD).
Domain Name Ownership and Regulation
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)
is a non-profit corporation that was formed to assume responsibility for
the domain name system. ICANN coordinates the assignment of Internet
domain names, IP address numbers and protocol parameters. ICANN approve
accredited registrars to manage and sell domain names on their behalf.
Domain names and trademarks have completely separate registration systems. However, domain names can acquire trademark significance if they are used to identify the source of products or services.
Owning a trademark does not give you a right to a domain name.
For information on ownership and status of a specific domain name search Internic's
database.
Domain Name Disputes
If you are experiencing difficulties with a third party, your web designer or
host with regards to domain name ownership or transfer you should contact the relevant
Registrar for assistance. You can also
seek assistance through ICANN
as they have a dispute and resolution service. Another useful site Domain
Magistrate contains detailed information and news of current
disputes.
How do domains work?
Your Web browser (IE or NN) asks the central US database (which holds all domains) to locate a domain
name i.e. domain.co.uk, the database tells your browser which Domain Name Server (DNS) holds the relevant information for
domain.co.uk. Your browser then contacts the DNS, which returns the IP Address for
domain.co.uk i.e. 271.129.374.03, this identifies where the Web Server storing your web site is located on the
Internet. The browser then requests from the Server the required page and the
Server delivers it to your browser.
